About Planet-X
Founded in 2016 by Joseph Tang, PLANET‑X is a designer soft vinyl studio dedicated to reimagining the monsters, heroes, and super robots that defined a generation.
Rooted in the tradition of vintage Japanese sofubi and informed by architectural precision, each figure is sculpted with bold proportion, refined detailing, and carefully considered color composition.
In addition to its original creations, PLANET‑X is officially licensed by Tsuburaya Productions and Dynamic Planning to produce collectible figures from landmark series including Ultraman, Mazinger Z, Devilman*, and more.
FROM ARCHITECTURE TO SOFT VINYL
Joseph Tang — Founder & Designer, PLANET-X
Joseph Tang brings an architect’s eye for form, proportion, and structure to the world of soft vinyl. He holds a Bachelor of Science in Architectural Studies and a Master of Architecture with Distinction from the University of Michigan.
His international career includes roles at OMA, Buro Ole Scheeren, Wharf China, and Atkins, with major design involvement in King Power MahaNakhon in Bangkok, The Interlace and DUO in Singapore, and design management for Chongqing IFS.
Through PLANET-X, Joseph brings this architectural perspective together with his passion for kaiju and vintage Japanese toys. His approach explores the balance between character, sculptural presence, and expressive proportions—reimagining familiar legends and developing original creatures through a distinctive design language.
